Movie Review: Luka Chuppi
Bollywood Hungama: 4.5/5
LUKA CHUPPI begins on a surprising note, showing the Nazim Khan controversy. It makes it clear that besides being a comedy, it’s also going to make a social comment. Audiences however will go by the trailer and they expect to see romance and some dash of situational fun. And they definitely get that once the characters get introduced. At the same time however the film takes a while to get into its element. The falling-in-love happens quite quickly. The way the equation between Guddu with Vikas and Babulal is established seems forced. In fact the dream sequence where Guddu imagines that his nephew Chiku is getting married falls flat.

~Kartik Aaryan, and Kriti Sanon starrer romantic comedy has many moments of joy. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Vinay Pathak, Aparshakti Khurana. The story is about a Guddu Shukla (Kartik), a local TV reporter of Mathura , who falls for a Hindu hardliner politician’s daughter, Rashmi Trivedi (Kriti Sanon). And while Guddu has been raised in a small town with middle-class and conservative values, Rashmi, is well read and well travelled.

'Luka Chuppi' is a situational comedy from the word go. And the situation in question is live-in relationships. What starts as a news story for a local reporter Guddu, turns into his own love story with hilarious complications. But peddling along are a host of other societal issues like misogyny, gender inequality, caste bias and moral policing that are tackled in a funny and harmless way. However, there is hardly a dull moment in the film that never takes itself too seriously.
