There is no doubt that Katrina Kaif stunned the audience with her last performance in Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero. Portraying the role of Babita Kumari an alcoholic Bollywood superstar Katrina was praised for her impertinent behaviour and the way she mastered it to the core. Having said this the actress is now gearing up for Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat that is touted as one of the most awaited films of the year and will be a huge Eid release.
With Salman Khan playing the role of a man named Bharat and whose journey coincides with that of a nation Katrina plays a subtle sari-wearing curly-haired ‘madam sir’ who becomes the superstar’s love interest on the big screen. Considering that Salman shared how Katrina will win a National award for her role the actress opened up about her character in a Hindustan Times interview.
Playing Kumud the Thugs Of Hindostan actress said “It was very challenging. I think my role in Bharat is the best that I’ve done so far in my career in terms of the depth of the character and playing a woman from 1975 to 2010 spanning 35 years. It was about holding on to a sense of continuity. The emotional journey her strength and gravitas the way it was written and the entire scope that I had for performance. My character Kumud is a strong woman fun and lively. She is not afraid to speak her mind she is not weak. It’s been a fantastic learning experience probably the most fulfilling and inspiring time I had playing her.”
The actress further talked about Salman and how she saw a big change in him just a few years back. “Since the time I started doing films with him he has always been extremely focused in his work. But his focus is greater now. I saw a big change around the time of Dabangg (2010) he had a renewed sense of edge to the way he approached his work. That happens few times for an actor when you tap onto something new that expands your horizons your potential and range as an actor” she said.
Meanwhile Bharat also stars Disha Patani Sunil Grover Tabu Jackie Shroff Nora Fatehi and a special appearance by Varun Dhawan. Releasing on Eid the film is an official remake of 2014 South Korean movie An Ode To My Father.
